Worker's Compensation

Wisconsin Worker's Compensation Division, Department of Workforce Development

Wisconsin Labor & Industry Review Commission (LIRC) - Decisions by LIRC are not controlling precedents, but they are still frequently useful in determining how LIRC dealt with specific fact situations in the past, since LIRC does try to be consistent.  Note that this is not a collection of all of LIRC's workers compensation decisions, but only of a limited number which have been archived based on a staff assessment that they might be useful as research tools.  There is a total of more than 700 decisions.

Wisconsin Court System - The Web site of the Wisconsin Court System  includes Wisconsin Court System Appellate Opinions.  All Wisconsin appellate opinions released since the summer of 1995 are available on this web site. You can perform two types of searches, conceptual (keyword) and database.

bulletThe conceptual search (a/k/a a keyword search) allows you to enter case numbers or a word or an exact phrase, which are used to search the body of all Court of Appeals or Supreme Court documents available on this web site.
Court of Appeals decisions: Click here to perform a keyword search.
Supreme Court decisions: Click here to perform a keyword search.

bulletThe database search allows you to search on specific fields in their database, such as docket number, release date, and disposition method. The resulting list will display opinions that exactly match the selected criteria.
Court of Appeals decisions: Click here to perform a database search.
Supreme Court decisions: Click here to perform a database search.

WisBar, the Web site of the State Bar of Wisconsin, allows access to court of appeals decisions and supreme court decisions from 1995 to date.

WisBar's CaseLaw Express is a free email service that keeps you abreast of recent cases that have been added to WisBar's case law archives. It costs nothing to subscribe to the service, and, once you are subscribed, you will receive an email each Monday listing all of the decisions handed down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Court of Appeals during the previous week. The case links include keyword descriptions, so you can do a quick search on "worker" to find any references to new worker's compensation decisions.

Wisconsin Circuit Court Access - Circuit court decisions are not available online.  However, The Web site of Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA), for accessing the records of the Consolidated Court Automation Programs (CCAP), is very useful in checking the records of the trial courts in Wisconsin to find out whether a particular claimant has been or is currently involved as a party in civil litigation. Also allows you to check on a claimant's criminal convictions.

Wisconsin Legislative Information - Useful for checking the status of pending or new legislation.

Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), DWD - The site includes a listing of addresses of all the DVR offices in Wisconsin.

Social Security Administration - Addresses for offices in Wisconsin.  Useful when you need to request information about SSDI benefits for computing an offset against worker's comp benefits.

Wisconsin State Agencies - Whatever Wisconsin government agency, board, commission or department you are looking for, you'll find it right here in this handy alphabetical index.

Wisconsin.gov - The State of Wisconsin e-government portal. The mother of all State of Wisconsin Web sites.

Worker's Comp Agencies for All 50 States - An excellent site by the North Carolina Industrial Commission includes links to all of the 50 states.

International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC)

Worker's Compensation Research Institute (WCRI)
